Building Distinctive Circular Homes Since 1968
WHO IS DELTEC?
Deltec Homes is an Asheville, North Carolina based company that has established itself in its industry as the major supplier of unique, panelized, circular structures. These structures are used as primary and secondary residences, multi-family units, and commercial projects. The concept of circular home design and Deltec Homes originated in 1968, and production began in 1972. In 1980, Deltec Homes purchased Rondesics, another circular home business located in the Asheville area. This acquisition increased Deltec’s growing experience and leadership in round home production and its dedication and service to customers throughout the United States and internationally.
WHAT IS THE DELTEC PACKAGE?
Deltec provides the “structural shell" of the home including the radial floor and roof systems, exterior walls, and hardware. If windows are ordered from Deltec they will be installed at our factory. Siding and trim are optional and can be pre-stained or painted and is factory applied to the wall panels on the circular structures. Items such as deck systems, skylights, wing and connect additions, covered porch kits, garages and many other options are also available.
HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO ASSEMBLE A DELTEC HOME?
Our panelized pre-cut building system makes it easy for your builder to assemble and finish your Deltec home. The components are not unusual. Wall panels are made with traditional 2” x 4” or 2” x 6” framing, roof and floor trusses, etc. – they are just in a slightly different configuration. Deltec provides plenty of technical assistance. We have designers, drafts people, construction advisors, and engineers who can advise and guide you through the design and construction processes.
The Deltec Circular Home package is a pre-cut, panelized building system. “Panelized construction” involves the prefabrication of a structure in identifiable panels that can be easily transported directly to the jobsite and assembled quickly on the foundation. A “building system” is a method of constructing residential or commercial structures in a factory setting and then transporting them to the building site for placement on a permanent foundation where they will perform and function with very predictable results.
Our “panelized building system” makes for quick and accurate assembly in the field for first time builders and owner builders. Each house is hand built for lasting value to assure the wall panels, roof and floor systems fit together smoothly on the job site. Most Deltec homes can be assembled in three to seven days.
IS ON-SITE CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE?
Yes! Independent consultants are available to give you expert advice and on-site assistance. From their own product knowledge and experience, they can "walk you through" all phases of the job, typically saving you time and money. There is a fee for field consulting depending on travel and consultation time.
WHAT QUALITY OF MATERIALS IS USED?
All of the materials used in our Deltec structures are of uncompromising excellence. Our purchasing department uses strict standards of quality and cost to provide our customers with the finest possible product at the most reasonable price. This effort does not stop with the purchase of materials, but continues throughout the manufacturing process. The result is a product which we are proud to build and our customers are proud to own.
HOW IS A DELTEC HOME SHIPPED?
All deliveries are shipped by common carrier truck, rail, or container. The package price does not include freight, but we will find the most economical means of shipping your home from our plant to your job site. Typically that will be on an enclosed 53’ trailer.
DOES A CIRCULAR HOME COST MORE TO BUILD?
Deltec has taken the hard part out of the construction of a circular house. The Deltec building system is designed and engineered for ease in assembly. Remember even though a Deltec home is not a conventional home, it is still built in a very conventional manner.
Once the Deltec portion is up the interior finish is just simple carpentry. A Deltec home should be very competitive in cost to other custom homes in your area with similar finishes and features.
IS A DELTEC HOME HARD TO FURNISH?
The Deltec wall panels are not curved. They are flat, 8' sections which make interiors easy to furnish. Look in your own house and determine how many corners are actually being utilized. Most corners are only dead spaces that collect dust. When you see a furnished Deltec, you'll be convinced that furnishing it is both easy and very satisfying.
Overall, you will be delighted at the spaciousness and the usefulness of every square foot. You will also notice that the vaulted ceiling adds to the natural open appearance of the plan.
IS A DELTEC HOME ENERGY EFFICIENT?
Deltec homes are extremely energy efficient. Circular shaped homes are inherently energy efficient. Deltec takes that natural performance and enhances it with our tight construction, extended overhangs, flow through roof venting, and wall thickness upgrades. Most Deltec homeowners report dramatic energy savings, sometimes as much as 50%, as compared to their conventional homes.
ARE DELTEC HOMES HURRICANE PROOF?
There are no hurricane proof home designs that we know of, but based on our homeowners’ experience, a Deltec home comes about as close as you can get. Deltec has never lost a home to high winds in almost 40 years of business.
Names like Katrina, Andrew, Ivan, Hugo and Charley represent billions of dollars in property damage and destruction. To Deltec homeowners, they typically represent just some lost shingles.
See and hear first hand our customers’ remarkable hurricane survival stories on our webpage. Our DVD, “Surviving the Storm” is also available and tells the stories of nine Deltec owners whose homes survived some of the worst storms in our nation’s history.
