Full BIO: Steve Linton, Director of Sustainable Technologies for Deltec Homes, is a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional and a BPI (Building Performance Institute) Certified Professional.
For more than 40 years, Deltec has built round homes that are energy efficient, durable and beautiful using panelized components produced at its manufacturing plant in Asheville, N.C. Deltec hired Steve in 2007 to oversee its work as one of the nation's elite green home builders. As Director of Sustainable Technologies, Steve has worked to improve energy efficiency of the company's products, educate staff and homeowners, commission new waste reduction initiatives, create a new green research Web site, and manage the installation of the largest solar energy system in N.C. Steve leads a team of three in the green building department with the mission of providing homes that are designed and constructed with the whole house approach.
Steve has worked as a green building consultant with ABC's Extreme Makeover show designing programs for increasing the sustainability of their homes. He was the lead builder for Extreme Makeover's first certified green home, a LEED Platinum and NAHB Gold certified house that Deltec completed in just five days.
As a LEED AP and BPI Certified Professional, Steve works with contractors and homeowners to improve energy efficiency and durability. He manages Asheville's BuildSmart, which promotes whole house building design in new and existing homes in Western North Carolina. He has taught Building Science for the Western North Carolina Green Building Council and presented at the 2007 Building Systems Council Showcase, 2008 NAHB National Green Building Conference, the 2008 Mountain Green Conference, and the 2010 International Builder's Show.
Steve graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University in 1998. He has worked as a project manager on multiple historic renovation projects in Boston including Trinity Church, focusing on exterior restoration of historic structures.
Steve and his wife Linnea have two sons, ages 5 and 2. Steve is an avid rock climber and backpacker who also enjoys trail running and mountain biking. He previously worked several years in North Carolina classrooms teaching math and science with an emphasis on global perspective, environmental science, and project based learning.
